Did pirates use maths?

Pirates were measured by their treasure and their brave deeds

Pirates craved treasure chests filled with Gold doubloon. The pirates were famous for hiding their treasures. They were often on a quest, with map in hand looking for buried treasure.

The secret of being a good pirate was not only finding the booty..The real trick, was knowing how work out your share was and keeping it.

A pirates ship ran on Maths.

Imaging you were the Quartermaster on a pirate ship, I sure you be concerned with the

  • Ships inventory, fitting all the treasures on board
  • Do you have enough powder for cannons & guns
  • analyzing which ships to raid.
  • and the important task of dividing up the loot.

The Ships Carpenter

  • Needed to work how much timer and caulking to bring aboard to keep the ship a float.

The Cook

  • Estimating how much food & stores to bring aboard, Image running out of food

The Captain

  • Needs to be able to navigate and read the map
  • Measure the wind and their speed
  • and measure how deep is safe harbour,

They all require math skills to do their jobs.

The pirates did not have the luxury of whipping out a calculator, when guns were firing and cutlass flying. They were often in pressure situations when they needed to be able perform maths in a hurried so they developed PiratesMaths.

I know you want to know how it works, but I needed to set the scene. I going to reveal the Secret in the next installment.
